HealthFest is an event held by the Malta Medical Students’ Association (MMSA), and this year together with the Malta Association of Dental Students (MADS), where we strive to promote a healthy lifestyle in ALL its forms; be it psychological or physical wellbeing or disease prevention. It serves to educate the public on a variety of health issues from the more obvious problems like diabetes to the less obvious, for example, care of our environment. We have a wealth of information to share, given by medical and dental students, as well as health professionals. Fun and informative activities will also be organised for children. The scope of this year’s edition of HealthFest, will be to focus on educating how to “prevent rather than cure” via a series of events which will be held as follows:
Friday 12th April – On Campus – University of Malta – between 09.00 and 14.00 hrs.
Saturday 13th April – St. George’s Square – Valletta – between 09.00 and 14.00 hrs.
The following campaigns will be featured throughout the event in Valletta:
Mental Health awareness, Diabetes, Stroke awareness, Eating Disorders, Breaking theSilence (deaf awareness), Preconception Care, Reproductive Neoplasms (cancers), Second Chance (disability and cancer), Ergonomics, Water, FOOD (Focus on Obesity and Diabetes), Organ Donation, Climate Care (environment), Beat the Burn (care in the sun), Anti – Tobacco and Substance Abuse. We shall also be offering blood pressure, BMI and blood glucose monitoring, advice on oral health, as well as advice from a nutritionist who will be available from 10.00 – 13.00hrs. Furthermore, there will also be a children’s play area where we will be providing basic education on healthy living, oral health, hand-washing and a ‘Teddy Bear’s Hospital’ (which aims to help children feel more comfortable in the presence of doctors in a fun and imaginative way).
There will be some sports activities for the public to try throughout the day and a free jitsu session from 10.00 till 11.00 hrs as well as a free zumba session at 13.00 hrs.
We would like to thank our sponsors Cardiosteroil®, One Touch® Select™ for the use oftheir glucose monitors, lancets and blood testing strips, Citadel Insurance plc., ATG Co.
